Welcome to scenic Lake WasARoad in low-lying Sturgis, Michigan!
Actually, most of Sturgis is well above the water table but a heavy rain overloaded the storm drains and it collected in the lowest part of town. Which is right at the intersection of the two highways that go through town.
I'm sure the surveyors thought it was perfectly logical to run M-12 right into a sump. Don't know WHY they would, but clearly they thought that.
